Ever heard of the Eximious of London catalog? Neither had I until it arrived a couple days ago, offering up all sorts of pseudo-clubby goodness (monogrammed leather poker cases and such). I’m especially taken with these geometric wooden puzzles : What charming alternatives to the Rubik’s cube! Eximious (actually of Northfield, Illinois) says they make great bookends or coffee table doodads — J’agree — once assembled.

The Watercube Wins Australia’s Highest Architecture Award

The Chinese National Aquatic Center, better known as the Watercube , recently won the most prestigious architecture award from the Australian Institute of Architecture ! Although not officially a cube, the incredible aquatics facility is the 2008 winner of the Jorn Utzon Award for International Architecture . The design and construction of the memorable facility was a collaboration between Australian firm PTW Architects , Chinese practices CSCEC and CCDI, and international firm Arup

Modern hanging gardens

When ac and i were walking along abbott kinney boulevard i snapped a shot of this fantastic hanging garden on the side of a building (anyone know which building this is? i couldn’t find any signage out front). i love the way it combines beautiful organic plants with such a modern, industrial structure. it would be great to see something like this applied to simple, concrete box-style buildings.

I’m so excited to write this as two of my favorite artists, Camilla Engman and Elisabeth Dunker in Göteborg, Sweden recently moved into a working studio together that they’ve called Studio Violet . Studio Violet has a blog , web store (they ship worldwide) and a website . I have to admit, when I stumbled upon this news today while reading Camilla’s blog I felt butterflies inside because I really LOVE their studio space and the current products they have for sale in their shop. Do You Buy Vintage Online?

So how many of you out there have had bad a experience buying used vintage stuff online? I still cringe at the $150 eBay riding boots that didn’t fit around my cankles. Bad idea! But it puzzles me when more mainstream sites offer vintage furniture and tchotchkes without showing what will actually arrive at your door. Like this Viiridian tray I’d consider buying on sale at Wisteria for $44.85: If I could own the one pictured.
